Delta Outflow Index: 1993-1995
The seasonal cycles of precipitation and river flow varied considerably among
water years 1993, 1994 and 1995.
- 1993 was a wet year in California, with statewide runoff that was 125% of normal.
- 1994 was critically dry when statewide runoff was only 40% of normal.
- 1995 was the second wettest year recorded of the century, with runoff 180% of normal.
This plot shows the Delta Outflow Index, an estimate of the daily flow of freshwater from the Delta into San Francisco Bay. This estimate is provided by the California Department of Water Resources. The red arrows in the top of the figure indicate dates that the USGS made water quality measurements from the Sacramento River to the South Bay.
