SHORELINE TYPES

In the mid-1800's the tidal-marsh, salt-evaporation-pond, and seasonal-wetlands shorelines were all tidal marsh, and the intertidal mudflats were less extensive. Extensive hydraulic mining, central-California water projects, and the urbanization of the Bay area have all contributed to the present shoreline configuration.
